The International Autumn Tournament in Informatics (IATI) takes place for the first time in 2009 on the initiative of Biserka Yovcheva and Emil Kelevedzhiev – chairman of the National Commission of Informatics of MES (Ministry of Education and Science).
This tournament is the only international Informatics competition that is conducted in two age groups – junior – for students up to 15.5 years old and senior – for senior high school students.
The host of the tournament is the Municipality of Shumen and the mayor of Shumen is its patron. Shumen takes a prominent place in the world’s Competitive Informatics for students. The Informatics Private School of Shumen is considered one of the best in the world. There are two Shumen citizens in top 25 of the world rank list of all times – Rostislav Rumenov and Rumen Hristov, Honorary Citizen of Shumen. Rumen Hristov holds the fourth place in this rang list.
This year, the tournament will be held with a strong international interest, as a response to the First European Junior Olympiad in Informatics held in Sofia in September. More than 200 contestants from over 10 countries, among them the best in the field in this type of competition – Russia, Romania, Poland and others, are expected to participate in the tournament.
